Check out how this cat plays the vibes. Pretty different approach.
Here's lesson 5. Play a chord tone solo. Why? Well let's see if you know the chords. If I can put you in a box and ask you limit yourself and play a solo, and you can play through the tune and we hear the tune very clearly, then you know the chords. And you know how to simply play through the tune.
If you're having trouble then just play arpeggios for each chord. But play in time and play the chords where they fall.
I mean if you can't play a chord tone solo, then you just don't know the chords. So this exercise is to make sure you know the chords.

Don't think this will look as good as on my phone, but i think it was a cool photo of my vibes.
I did a great gig last night with my mentor, Larry Mckenna. I took a shot of what we see when we play. It's an art museum and it's really a fun gig. The sound man is really good, so the sound is good for a room this large. Here's a photo of Larry Mckenna talking to the audience. Just posting for fun!
