My One And Only Love by Tjaco Oostdijk

Here is my version of 'My One And Only Love'. I really wanted to play it as a beautiful ballad, and I didn't have a lot of time this week so when I recorded today I really found out that I really need to work on playing ballads. I think this is hard to do playing solo vibes and especially not playing it rubato. Somehow I believe playing things rubato is a lot easier, right?

But anyway, as promised, here is my recording of this weeks tune. And as Tifoo mentioned, it's not perfect but that's the nice about doing this. We learn, compare and learn some more.

Karn Evil 9 by Tony Miceli & University of the Arts 'Z' Big Band

I was asked to play a few numbers with one of our big bands at University of the Arts. They said they have one of the school arrangers arrange something for me and I said. Karn Evil 9. And they said, what did you say? But I convinced them to do it.

I love this arrangement and I think they are going to write 4 or 5 more charts for me! So then my next problem is to come with with 10 grand so I can make a CD out of the material!

YEAH!!! I love playing Rock Tunes.

Bird is the Word

I spent part of tonight playing Bird's first chorus on the tune Merry Go Round which is a rhythm changes with a Sears and Roebuck Bridge. S and R Bridge is (key of Bb) F-7 Bb7 Eb Eb C7 C7 C-7 F7. That's what Larry Mckenna always calls it and said that was the name. I dig that name.

Comping Party 1 for Skirt by Tony Miceli

Here's our first comping party.

Just pick a tune that you know, comp only and upload it. This might turn out to be a phenomenal way to study comping. I thought about all picking the same tune, but maybe do that next time? For the first one, just practice comping and post it.

What do you think? This one is dedicated to Milt in a Skirt, MIS or simply Skirt.
