Prescription for the Working Class Musician

Hi All,

There's been a great discussion on a thread started by Steve Shapiro on the future of the music business (see check this out). I've been enjoying that quite a bit, but I'm worried that it's a bit too esoteric for most of the people here. So I'd like to start another thread about concrete steps working musicians can take in the new environment to optimize their chances of making a decent living.

Speaking of great I MEAN SEXIST ads

Interesting how things work. Yin and Yang. I saw this post from Nico, replied to him saying this is the ad to use!! It's the best!!

At the same time I got an email from a user of the site, who is a female. Not Milt in Skirt or Marie (we have others). And she's to remain unknown (but I know). Anyway this person said very nicely that maybe we were being a little sexist in our tone. She asked if it was necessary, she realizing that we were having fun. Myself being probably the prime offender, thought YES it's necessary. But then I thought ok, maybe not.

Alone Together Duet PLay Along

Hey Guys and Girls!

Here's the play along for recording a version of Alone Together this week. It's a quartet version(vb-bs-drs+You), so I think some of you will find it a little easier to play along then with only vibes duo.
This version has an 8 bar intro before the melody starts!

I'll also post a play along wih only the bass and drums. That one is also good to practice and record trio version.

Afro Cuban Vibes 2 - Part 1

I have had some requests since the last lesson to show how to apply the ideas from lesson 1 to different chord sequences. This part of the lesson deals exclusively with taking a single rhythm (the first from lesson 1) and applying it over various tunes with different voicings. Watching it again, I feel like I played these patterns a lit bit on the fast side for cha cha so slow them down ;)

Fabrizio Fratepietro and "Reseau" – Hip Vibes for the future?

Hi all,

I was checking our newbies, and saw this guy from Perugia: Fabrizio Fratepietro. I thought: wow, Perugia, one of the European capitals of jazz!

He had the good idea to put his myspace link. I went there and listened to the first sample...

Wow! I thought we were right in the discussion "Competition Part 2": that's quite modern hip music, groovy, with vibes, trumpet, etc… and that cool vibraphone comping and even solo. And there are lyrics sang as a rap (huh?) and the guy sings in a perfect French (huh?!). And guess what is the subject of this first tune: clones! Haha! :o)

New ad campaign

Now that we've added the glockenspiels to our product range, it is time to expand our diversity of ads.

My goal was to get at least some humor in the ad campaign and for the glockenspiel get rid of the dusty image, but keep the ad appealing to the market it is for. Also the eVibe now that it has been upgraded needed an ad.
With the acoustic models we still have the nice Joe Locke ad, so there is no need to change here.
