Considering that this interview was conducted in 1976, I found it interesting to hear his replies to the questions when I actually know what was ahead for him. I wonder if he was thinking in '76 about diversity in his music would eventually include the nuevo tango and the classical things he recorded with Richard Stoltzman as well as the musette jazz he played with Richard Galliano. I've been watching a lot of Burton on YouTube over the last two weeks and continue to be amazed at the way he chose to stretch himself and explore new things later in his career. Pretty fearless, I think, and if there is a lesson here it might be fearlessness in trying new things.
