Steps is at Birdland all this week (35th anniversary) if your in NYC. This version of the band is Mike Mainieri, Eliane Elias, George Garzone, Marc Johnson and Peter Erskine. Wish I was!

I was down at Birdland the other night and spoke to Mike. Anthony Smith was there as well. Mike is 77, and going strong - and maybe the hippest 77-year old I've ever met. The current 35th-reunion band is more acoustic, and not playing much of this harder material. But I really love these groovier tunes of Mike's, esp. with Mike Stern in the band!!
