Anything missing here? Any good ideas for us?

Forum Topic: Any guys in UK?

Hi Everyone,

There is a possibility that I will be in the UK (Leeds in particular) between July 2011 - Jan 2012 - might be the whole time may be only some of it. I'm just trying to get a feel for who is over there in the UK (and close surrounding areas) for me to visit/hang/play with or get lessons from.

Would love to hear from you all!

Cheers,
James

Forum Topic: Getting more users on the forums

Its obvious to me that people are signing up each day. The new members chart is constantly changing. Correct me if i am wrong, but i get the feeling that less than 25% of the members actually click on the forums. In other words, we need to get more people on the forums. Some forums have not been posted in for a year. some have no topics at all! In order to make this community better, we need more people on the forums.
Heres my idea

Forum Topic: I'm new and not sure what to do.

Hello,
My name is stephen and i am the only jazz vibes player in my middle school. I am actually the only one to walk through as a vibe player. I recently received a set of ludwig and ludwig vibes over the holidays. I am interested in subscribing, but i have a few questions. Whats the difference between the type of memberships? Do i lose any oppertunities by getting a student membership? I enjoy playing vibes and i already take lessons. Do i need the premium membership?
Also, does anyone no how tony's 46rs sound on non-graduated bars like the ones on a jenco?

Forum Topic: **Help** Practicing away from the Vibes

I am looking for suggestions for "practicing" away from the vibes. i.e. sitting on a plane, or in a hotel room. I will be traveling a ton on business after the holidays. I have a couple of ideas that I'd like to share and I'd like to get feedback or suggestions.

1) Memorize tunes. I am now making some 3X5 notecards, the name of the tune on one side the chords, key and modes on the other (e.g. II, V, I)

Forum Topic: Being versatile?

There's a piano player/producer at my school right now from puerto rico names eddie montilla. he's a graduate from the class of 1977. he'much more of a hip hop producer, but he just got me thinking. he says that everyone should listen to all types of music, even the genres you can't stand, because one day you might need that knowledge.

Forum Topic: Practicing ii-V-I

I was thinking about practicing and was asking myself how I could make practicing ii-V-I more interesting.

So I thought it would be cool to collect a list of ii-V-I licks from great players and work on them in all keys. Fortunately I've got the Charlie Parker Omni book and I'm looking through it and see a bunch of really nice lines over these changes. Transpose to all keys and use the Aebersold ii-V-I play-along and you've got a real interesting and structured way of honing your ii-V-I skills.

Forum Topic: Practicing

I've never really developed a practice routine that seemed to produce a really full and rounding feeling after practicing. Especially entering the summer and getting away from school, when i'll have hours and hours to dedicate to practicing everyday, i want to develop something fairly concrete that I can base my practicing around. I feel like i'm missing some important aspects of my playing in my practicing because they get pushed aside for more immediate concerns, in particular sight-reading and ear-training. Any input on your practice routines would be great to hear.
