Little B's Poem

I've been practicing Little B's Poem today. I'm reminded on how important it is to work on solo versions of the tune. EVEN if you never get completely to the end, where it's a real solo tune you can play. BUT you get close.

I've realized today that when melodies have roots or 3rds in them that we have to come up with creative voicings., especially with dominant chords. So I've learned a lot today.

I was playing along with the cd and checking out the melody. Then I started to work on it as a solo tune and all this great stuff started happening for me.

New Melodies, Old Tunes

Hey guys,

This is a GREAT exercise for writing, improvising, and tune learning. The idea is to write a new melody over the chord changes to an old standard tune. You can alter the harmony a little bit here and there to fit your new melody but the idea is that you could call a standard tune everyone knows, but it will sound completely different.
