Hey Vibes Workshop
Critiques please! Trying to get better!
Third attempt at this etude! Definitely not done with it yet, but hopefully a good culmination of my posts of it here.
I did not use a metronome this time, so I know my time still needs work; I wanted to see how good it would be without a met.
Thank you for the feedback, Mr. Friedman.
Great site Tony!
My second attempt at recording Friedman's etude 7. I played with a click to ensure my time was solid, because it was anything but in my first recording.
Yeah vibes!
First post on the site! Thanks for all your help Tony!
Greetings everyone. As some of you might know, I'm an adult student getting back to mallet playing after being away for many, many years. Used to have a marimba. Played lots of classical music. Now the proud owner of my first vibraphone. I'm having an absolute blast! Definitely trying to aim at jazz soloing, comping, ect on the vibes.
I notice that there are players who use the Burton Grip and use the 2 inside mallets for their lines. I always thought that was weird for a couple of reasons, the main one being that I have a feeling if the right inside mallet was better that Gary would be using it in that way.
I do think though if you are going to play that way you need to really work on that right outside mallet. My grip is different in a small way, and I use the inside mallets and I work also really hard on the outside mallets.
