24 hours!

in my lesson we talked about approaching practicing for a little, and tony reminded me of a bill evans quote.

"It's better to practice one tune for 24 hours than it is to practice 24 tunes in an hour."

I'm guessing he didn't mean literally to spend 24 straight hours on a tune, but i'm on break, and i've got some free time... we've been working on fried bananas in our lessons, and so in the next few days i'm going to pick a day to wake up at 8 or so, and practice fried bananas for 24 hours, with some breaks for food.

Thoughts about posting

i am on the site for almost 2 years now and i just want to encourage more people to post.to me it´s a little bit pity that there are so many members but most posts are done only by few memebers. i can for sure understand that many people don´t want to post something, because they think it´s not good enough to be listened by many vibes maniacs or the masters like david friedman or tony miceli. maybe i´m wrong but the main goal about posting is not "fishing for compliments" or try to make the perfect version of something.for sure getting a compliment is nice but that´s not really important.

New Year's Resolution!

Hi everybody,

So I know it's a bit late, but the new TOTM (Days of Wine and Roses) has really inspired me to build up a wider repertoire of tunes, so I've come up with a new year's resolution.

From today, I'm going to try and learn a new tune every two weeks (by ear), and at the end of the two weeks post a recording on here, to give a sense of finality to the exercise.

Workshop/explanation

Hi to everybody coming to the workshop at Niko's in Sassenheim. I'm afraid my "suggestion" to prepare Coltrane's "Giant Steps" sounded a bit too harsh. I shouldn't have said "prepare" these two tunes, but rather check them out. I know "Giant Steps" is a killer and many people feel their not up to it yet. But, hey,no stress. NOBODY is comparing or giving a test. I just thought it might be fun to take this "boogy man" of a jazz tune and demystify him a bit.
