Who inspires you? Why? Talk about the 'cats'

Forum Topic: Gary! by Ed Mann

Gary Burton was one person of 3 - the other 2 being Dave Samuels and Milt Jackson, who inspired me to start playing vibes at age 17. I listened to all of Gary's records way back then and learned the tunes by ear...recently (thanks to VW) I have been watching Gary's videos, and I am even more blown away now than I was as a beginner. Man, what incredible musicality and wailing...I am reinspired by Gary's timeless approach. Thanks Gary!

Forum Topic: Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson! (links)

Emilie and I were talking about that Locke/Hutcherson video, and suddenly Goldwing put it on top of the Pile! Funny! :o)

What about the legendary duets Hutcherson/Jackson? We know vids of Milt on the net are very few and tend to disappear. So this is an update of the few duets (so far) on Dailymotion, from Jazz Baltica 99 (one of the very last performances of Bags)… Feat. Pierre Boussaguet (db…French!), plus the legendary Mikey Rocker (dr) and Mike Ledonne (p.)

Philippe,

I read part of your incredible and huge Blog in French. Plus seeing you online and so active since your arrival, I think it'd more than fair if you could let us have your story in one page (not an easy exercice huh?)! :o)

I'd love it see you in the Who is book!

Pleeaaase!!! :o)

Forum Topic: Gary and Astor Piazzolla

Hi Gary,

I saw in the Shout Box that you had a tour coming up with the Piazzolla band. I'm a huge fan of Piazzolla and I know you are as well. His music is very deep and emotional. I have his book about his life. It seemed that he had very difficult times at various points throughout his lifetime. Also, it appears that he was very meticulous about his music and took his music very seriously.

Forum Topic: SOLO SAINDON, MICELI AND PIPER A FEW YEARS AGO

Hello All,

I'm kinda new at this "posting" business, I hope I've put it in the right place.

So...
I remember a few years ago that Ed Saindon, Tony Miceli and John Piper all recorded a solo version of a tune. Was it Dolphin Dance? It doesn't really matter what tune it was. It was an awesome introspection into three great player's approach to the same material. If this is not still available with a click of the mouse, (Tony) could it be?

Everybody must check these out. Alternatively: Let's do it again. It really was the coolest.
