This etude is based on the harmony of All the things you are. The idea is to play a basic structure of the chord (most of the time 3-7) with the Left Hand while the Right Hand is playing broken chords using some extensions of the chords or an upper structure triad. There's also a challenging rhythmic displacement (triplet on right hand against Left hand)

Never heard of Hazy but he/she? sounds great!
Playing East of the Sun with a nod to some of my favorite "older style" pianists (Art Tatum, Errol Garner, George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Dave McKenna and Teddy Wilson).
I had a few minutes before a class this week and was exploring on piano with this classic composition by the great Leonard Bernstein. This is a great song with a beautiful melody and deep harmony. One of those songs that plays itself. I'm using a little reharm here and there. There's a beautiful version of Somewhere with Keith Jarrett and the trio. Ed
hello vibeworkshop family .. id like to share the this composition with you that i just recorded last weekend with my friend Tom Berich on steel pans. The tune is entitled " Reflections." not be associated with the monk tune. this tune floats between 3 distinct moods, RnB, reggae, what i would like to call a ( steps aheadish) groove. Fyi . this is NOT mixed. nor any Eq. just the rough copy for the band to listen to. Mixing and editing starts on the entire cd in november.
Hi folks,
revisiting ye' olde concept of upper structure triads. It's such a huge topic and you can apply it so many ways. Here's what I'm thinking about today.
