Stefon lays down the funk
I was surprised that more vibes players don't know about this excellent Charlie Hunter album from 1998 called Return of the Candyman. It's a trio date with Stefon Harris on vibes, drums, and Charlie playing his 8-string guitar/bass instrument. I haven't heard everything Stefon has recorded, but so far I find this to be the funkiest.
This is their version of the Steve Miller Band hit "Fly Like An Eagle."

FaceTime lesson with a vibe student from China
Teaching with FaceTime. I gave a lesson yesterday to a vibe student in Guangzhou, China. Technology has certainly increased the possibilities in music education. We covered a lot of ground in the hour including the fulcrum grip, dampening, theory, comping and improv.
