Steve Weiss Mallet Workshop

That's the name of the album :-)!

I posted the album cover when I bought the album. I've been listening to him again. Another west coast cat. And man he plays great! IMHO

Man I think he's a great vibe player. Don't know much about him. What do you guys think?

Definitely a player. Someone was selling a copy of this album on eBay. He has a playlist on youtube called "The Gene Estes Quartet". He was very talented and played drums with Jack Sheldon's group.

Really smooth and very melodic improviser.

Thanks for bringing him to light, Tony. He definitely has the sound and chops of the vibraphonists that I remember from the 1950's and 1960's when I was growing up. Terry Gibbs was most notable among that group. As I recall, Terry was much lauded and frequent winner of the Downbeat poll during that era. Gene Estes fits right in.

Love they hype "Stereo". Nice recording and musicians all around. Can't say I dig the Marimba though. I'm willing to go out on a limb though ad say it's not the greatest stereo to this day. There's been a few since then ;)

What instruments does this pertain to?
