Just a little advanced notice that we'll have an open house on thursday August 2nd, at the University of Delaware during our vibesworkshop workshop.
So if you're around plan on coming down and meeting everyone and hanging with us. Dave Friedman will be there, as will Bob Becker and some other players. Maybe some guys like Randy Sutin, Or Behn will show. All are welcome!!
(@Bruce Wells - the date i'm pretty sure is correct! I didn't screw this on up)
Margie Hyams, 91, a vibraphonist who played with bandleaders Woody Herman and George Shearing as well as with her own jazz trio in the 1940s, died Thursday of renal failure at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, said her daughter Lisa Ericsson. Born Aug. 9, 1920, in New York, Hyams played the vibes with Herman's First Herd in 1944 and '45, then formed a trio and also appeared with Mary Lou Williams and Charlie Ventura until 1949, when she was invited to join Shearing, the blind piano virtuoso.
I just have to tell you guys. I have so much fun with a metronome. I know there are guys that don't think they are cool, but I love working with a metronome. It helps me so much to learn about time!
I just put it on 2 and 4 and play. I can feel my time waver a bit and I can see it's tendencies. I learn so much. Man, try learning a bebop head and then putting the metronome on 2 and 4. See where the accents are, the off beat phrases, etc. Try it out and let me know what you think!
I dig it!
This kills me! Nothing else to say. Just watch it.
My buddy Florian Poser sent me this!
