This is a video of the Charlie Kunz band featuring Teddy Brown. It's cool to watch just to see teddy.
But go to 10:22 and watch the vibe player. He dampens with his finger. Why? I think because there was not pedal on the vibraphone.
That blew me away. Am I right?
Hey all,
The lesson offer is still on but with a small change; complete any two etudes from the blues or rhythm changes etudes I've posted and I will do a free 30 minute lesson. So if you want to do one of the blues etudes and one of the rhythm changes, you can get the lesson. Must be a decent version of each though :)
Hope to see some posts!
This was great and fun. I played Terry's big band charts with his LA Dream Band. What incredible musicians!
I did practice playing these tunes every day for a month. LA cats are great readers and great players, so I had to really practice!
This was a great gig. On this video I am playing his tunes with his son on drums. Tom Rainer on Clarinet and Bill Cullen on piano.
Getting your time together can be an enormous amount of work. Well, at least for me it is and I'm still working on it.
With this etude, you have to play it with your right foot OFF the pedal and tapping on 2 and 4. Not your left foot but your right foot.
I don't write the chords in because I want you guys to print this stuff out and really study it. I feel like I'm handing it to you if I write the chords in. I believe you need to do the active work and try very hard to see how all this is connect.
Check out this vw video. I think it's one of David's students. He would have all his students write etudes. Good idea.

Who wants to try writing an etude?
That's the name of the album :-)!
I posted the album cover when I bought the album. I've been listening to him again. Another west coast cat. And man he plays great! IMHO
Man I think he's a great vibe player. Don't know much about him. What do you guys think?
I am working on Out of Nowhere. Attached are two versions; one is a solo, and the other is me trying to hang with Chet Baker. This is the first time listening to this to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4W6OJIrEjc. Having a good rhythm section behind me makes it a lot easier. These are both without reading.
Suggestions appreciated.
