Here's a quick and dirty performance of Blues for Alice.

Some of you guys know that I really believe that putting your stuff out there is a great way to get better! That means playing in public, giving college concerts, playing in jam sessions and also posting on the internet. This is a fairly new way of putting your stuff out there.

The thing is you will try harder if you're putting your stuff out there and that's why you get better.

I just decided to give myself 1 hour to come up with a decent version of this tune and post it.

1:21 I say top 2 voices, I mean top three

I say confirmation. I mean Blues for Alice.

I say Ab-7 where I mean Bb-7

So many great versions of this song. One of my favorite versions is by the late jazz harmonica player Toots Thielemans and pianist Kenny Werner. It was very sad hearing of Toots' passing last week. There was no one like him and it's such a huge loss. Toots and Kenny recorded this song on their duo recording. I also saw a video last week of Toots and Kenny playing this song in a concert. Toots playing the melody so beautifully on harmonica and Kenny backing him up on piano and synth with sensitivity and lots of harmonic color and variation.
