what's happening? how's the hand?
jonathan,
i think it's totally cool that you're posting things in public and getting people to talk about it. that will totally help you i think.
i'm sorting this all out as i go, and i'm thinking when you post a new version of something maybe post it in 2 ways.
one: post it to the group which is me and you and keep that private
then leave the group. just go to the home page, then click post and post it there for the public.
I was having some thoughts on transcribing so I thought I'd post them here.
So I was transcribing the Steve Nelson solo on Beautiful Love today and I remembered some guys here talking about programs to slow down music to transcribe and stuff like that.
My thoughts on that are that you shouldn't even want to use that kind of stuff to transcribe.
This is the first chorus of Steve Nelson playing a solo over Beautiful Love. I also posted part of it as a pdf, but I just started transcribing today so it's only a part and I think there are some parts wrong. but I'm working on it.
This solo is really great and he outlines the chords beautifully. I'll try to finish this first chorus soon and update the pdf.
I love Steve Nelson. He has played a lot(and think he still does) with Dave Holland's band.
Check Nelson on Wikipedia:
Hi!
For many years I am studying a guitar instruction book. This ia a sample of an advanced comping for guitar over a Bb-blues .
The author says that "every soloist will be gratful for this kind of comping" so I recorded the guitar for playing solo with the vibes - for download mp3 check the link:

Here's a trivia question for you:
What does Beardstown, Illinois have to do with jazz and the vibraphone?
I've been tied up with teaching, gigs and recording the next part of the Vince Guaraldi lesson! I need to get a little time and see what comments are going up. I'm glad Piper is around.
Anyway, I think I have a decent performance of the tune, now I need to talk about it and then that part will go up. I'm thinking probably Friday or so, I should be finished.
Hope someone is practicing the piece. I did more of my version which is similar to the etude and will give you an idea. I'm hoping one of you guys will record that actual etude and post it!!!
Anyone on board with "A Sight Reading Etude Per Day"? I'm curious if anyone is using the pages I'm putting up for Sight Reading. If so, please email me or post it here to let me know. I'd like to track the progress if possible but if no one is needing or using it I'll discontinue it.
I have some old Good Vibes mallets that are warped out of line about 3/16". I have newer Mike Balter mallets that have a slight curve also so I am assuming this happens with all mallets.
Do you try straightening them (steam them?), play with them as-is or go out and buy new ones.
Thanks,
Barry
