I was recently talking with a student about playing in slow motion. I think I've talked about it here before, but I thought I'd do a little reminder on the topic.
I just checked out Tony's myspace page and listened to him playing 4 and 1. That's some mighty fine vibin' there. Could you talk about that piece? If it's not here somewhere I think others would really enjoy it.
Hello ! Me and my bass player have a gig forthcoming(where I'll be playing drums), with the very fine Scottish trumpet-player, Bruce Adams. Bruce sent us his set list, which includes this old Hank Mobley Tune : Funk in Deep Freeze. I thought it would sound good on vibes, so I recorded it this morning at cockcrow. As usual, I'm playing on top of a homemade bass-and-drums track. I attach the score and the rhythm track, if anyone feels like trying it. I'll work on it a bit more. If I can come up with a better take, I'll substitute.
The Bach English Suites make great duets for vibes and marimba, or guitar, or bass, etc. I've attached a pdf of the right hand part and an mp3 of the left hand. Work up the right hand part and play along with the mp3. It's a fun piece to play!

Man I've been here practicing for the last few hours. I'm working on stuff I worked on yesterday and I'm realizing once again how important consistency is.
I'm seeing what I did yesterday flow a little better today. It's really exciting and always has been.
That's why I just want to mention about this. Make sure you're setting aside time each day, or most days. You need that consistency to get better.
Just taking a 5 minute break to pass on my 2 cents.
What is a vibe hang?
A vibe hang is when we all get together online and some of us play live and we hang and talk. I'll put up a link where we'll meet the day of and we just hang play and talk. it's a chance for people to play live in front of others. and a chance for others to listen, learn and talk.
It's easy to play live. There's another faq listed under 'Check This Out'. It will tell you more.
