Someone to watch over me.

Hello guys. One of the great thing you can play alone on the vibe is ballads. I think the instrument has the potential to provide the feeling and the warmness to play slow songs at least as much as a piano. but the challenge is to stay clear with the pedal (lot of dampening) and not to rush.
the key is, I think, to take the time to "breath" between each lines and to "sing" the melody. This will help to have the right direction and emotion.

New to the board and looking to start my journey into learning to play the vibraphone. I'm 50 years old and have played various instruments (keyboards mainly) over the years. The vibraphone has always appealed to me and I'm excited about learning to play.

I'm looking at a 60-70s pre-Ludwig M55 that's for sale in my area. The question I have one simple question (for now): are the older M55s harder to breakdown and move than the Pro-traveller versions?

Anything else one can share about the pre-Ludwig models would be greatly appreciated.

This doesn't need video or audio or anything. It needs discipline. And discipline is hard. I have back problems and when I do my back exercises I have no pain. And then I forget to do the exercises. And then let's not even get into food.

My Piano buddy Laura Klein introduced me to this tune by Wayne Shorter to me a few years ago. It is a tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese political activist that recently won the Nobel Peace Prize.

It proved to be very difficult for me because of the long modal sections interspersed with some free playing - both areas I am weak in.

But this recording did come out ok I think. Shorter recorded it as a duet with Herbie, and that version is great.

Bobby Hutcherson has been a huge influence on my playing. His interpetation of Wise One is soooo deep.. this is my version of the tune done this last weekend in eugene oregon. first time i had ever played this tune beyond my house and the first time i played this tune with this crew up in eugene oregon.

To practise this tune I inspired from Rusty where he uploaded a wonderfull version of this tune and I thought a cool idea to practise it in terms of solo vibes using chords and lines together. I also recorded a midi bass to help me get the groove. The additional track is just comping a band I found at the internet :)
