My homework is always late!
I tried to play the melody with mallet dampening as an exercise.
I'm trying too hard to use this sound that I was having some fun with. I think it sounds better in person than on the video-but I like it. I will def use it less in a real performance-but I think it sounds kinda cool.
Any thoughts on the best way to avoid getting tangled up?
Thanks
So... I am in Wuppetal playing How deep is the ocean in front of the guys and David Suggested to play it again but to split the comping from the melody in order to be more clear! This is my try!

Anyone want to skype and go over the changes to Satin Doll. We would focus on Just that. So you'd have to have the changes memorized.
We would do this on Skype.
Anyone interested?
If you're in the Philly Area and free tomorrow afternoon, come check out the Essentially Ellington jazz fest at Temple University. There should be a lot of great HS bands there as well as some awesome clinics with local pros, I'm playing around 2 with the Pennsbury concert Jazz Band, we'll be playing Three and One (thad jones), Cherry Juice (thad jones), and Lightnin' (ellington). Hope to see ya there!
Thanks for Randy Sutin. This is heavy! Wait until you hear it!
Download the PDF, add in the chords and play the solo. Notice how we can hear the tune in the solo. Check out some of the more interesting notes with the chords to find out what extension the note is. Then finally why not try to make your own solo over the tune!
BTW - I'm learning Sibelius and did the solo in one pass using flexitime!
