Hi everybody!

Somebody can explain how to do a montuno on vibes ? Or comping rythm and voicing in latin-jazz?
I find nothing about it and I don't know how to adapt piano montuno for vibes because we have only 4 fingers and we can't let resound a note more than an other one...
If anyone can help me about it ? ;)

Thanks Tom ! :)

Finally I've check in Carlos compos's book "Salsa and afro Cuban montunos for Piano" (you can see it here : http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Salsa-And-Afro-Cuban-Montunos-For-P… )
and find what I want for 4 mallets.
It's very nice when I use just the right hand of the piano (so, I don't play tumbao but just montuno). I practice that actually. I will post soon an audio of it ! :)
This book have a lot of exemple for 2-3 and 3-2 clave, with variation ect... and few practice track with different tempo.. very nice book for what I want to practice!

Thanks again for your pdf !

Hi !
Here is what I have practice about vibraphone's montuno.
It's simply the right hand of piano's pattern :)
If it can help somebody for an approch of the montuno ! :)

It's still fresh, but I'm satisfied with the evolution of it! Now, It's time to groove it solidly with the bass' tumbao ! :)

Tony, if you know more about it, in the futur.. I shall be interested :)
I'm going to play this tune with a Cuban pianist, I think he goes to learn me more! It's the best way to learn it ! :)

I hope that "MIS" will become "CIS" (Cuban in a skirt) ahahaha ;)

that's great. sounds like you got it!

i don't know much about doing montuno's on the vibes, except there was a period where i playing in elio villafranco's band. i used to always set up near him and then when the montuno's where happening i would try and cop them and play them. even at concerts i would just play quietly. i didn't care i wanted to learn them. but i haven't used them much and don't remember much about it.

i would learn them right off cds. get it from the masters!
