Blues for Dave

Hi!

Encouraged by Tony's call to put up some personal recordings I put up this blues here. I recorded all the instruments with overdubs. Overdubbing is quite difficult to me even tough with metronome since I have a lack of "rhytmical stability". The recordng is about a year old and I think that my vibes playing has improved since then - at least I hope so.

Cheers Stefan

Invitation & more by Joe Locke (solo piece - Drop 2 "listen"!)

Hi all,

It’s a long time since I wished I could share the attached file with you. It’s in my "special collection" and I love it.

Last April when Joe Locke came to Paris his gig with the Moutin Brothers was recorded on the radio. Of course, I was there… and Florian too!

This is Joe’s solo intro piece... in full... and beautiful!

It fits rightly with Dana’s recent drop 2 lessons and Joe agreed that I posted it... I’m thrilled!

Enjoy!

P.S. : Jean-Michel, listen to what you missed! :o)

Sword of Whispers - BarryK's Demo

I couldn't wait for Tony's etude so I started working with the Sword of Whispers lead sheet on Joe's site. This is a demo recording to put down some ideas. I was mainly trying to get the notes and some harmonies. I need major work on my rhythm. I tried playing along with http://www.metronomeonline.com/ but it only can help so much.

Anyway, you know where the Stop button is.

Cherokee Etude - BarryK's Work-in-Progress

I started working on the Cherokee Etude. Here are the first 32 bars. I cheated a little bit, splicing in a couple sections and removing pauses. Eventually I will get it smoothed out.

My sticking is different from Tony's suggested sticking. I am exclusively using the inner mallets, always alternating, for the bass line and mallet 4 for the melody. I haven't tried the second half yet, so I don't know if I will be able to use the inner mallets, alternating as I do in the first half...

Roger Beaujolais - My most amazing greeting card!

Like most people, in December and January I sent some greetings cards, to family or friends, by post or internet, in France or all over the world...

I got replies from nearly all of them, but the most unexpected one must have been this one: London based vibist Roger Beaujolais, got back to my email with some very nice and very cool short vibes pieces, never released on any label!

He kindly agreed that I put them on the site.

Here attached, I chose this tune named "Transparent"...

Valentines Day Tunes

The most obvious Valentines Day tune is "My Funny Valentine". Are there others?

I put the changes into Band-in-a-Box and had fun with "My Funny Valentine". I'll probably do another take though.

How about posting your version or another Valentines Day tune? I know you want to!

2 Great CDs

I've been listening to Wagner's 'Tristan and Isolde' and Charlie Haden's new cd 'Ramblin' Boy' and they've been blowing me away.

Sometimes leaving your universe and going to another is such a good thing.

Vibes Hang

I had a fellow few vibes enthusiasts over recently, during which I noticed how geeky we all are. I thought that I would post some photographs that were taken that day. Please don't blast me for posting a photograph of myself. I thought it brought out my best features.
