H-Factor

I'm very appreciative to mon amie Marie-Noelle on her kind words about the tunes on my MySpace page with the H-Factor, a local Philly jazz group. She pointed out to me that since previously, my page was set to private, that nobody was able to access my page to hear them. So I unblocked it. If you have time, please give a listen and tell me what you think. One tune, "That Old Devil Moon", features the great Larry McKenna on the tenor saxophone. The others members are Rob Henderson, the leader, on drums, Pete Colangelo an bass, and myself.

creative exercise

i have attached an mp3 of a trax that is basically a looped 8 bar idea. There is really no chord structure, but rather sound shapes. What i do alot in my home studio with REASON 4, is make short loops ideas to play over.. and then i work on the creative process

in the example its based around a C min tonality.. but can also be a Ab major tonality. like i mentioned previous there was no concept of chords.. just a groove....

with that in mind here is a list of step and ideas i mess around with ...

1. sing a line .. and play it. have a conversation with yourself and your instrument.

cubase insanity

last night i had some time welll not really time ..lol ..instead of watching tv i mess with my recording studio... so i imported the portland session into the program and remixed it.

Duets

Play along with the duets. Play vibes or even marimba and add your part and then upload it for others to check out!

I created these so you can get some ideas on how to comp for other instruments. Also this will help you're solo playing.

A couple things to consider:
1. If you can accompany me in this setting then when you play with a bass things will be even simpler. In this setting your voicings have to be very clear, you have to do all the work.

2. If you are in settings when you have to accompany another soloist with the support of a bass working like this will help you.
