Great Exercise On Dominant (Mixolydian) Chords -V

I know I've posted this before. But one more time.

All great horn plays know this one.

I write it here over an F9 chord and at the end I head into Bb. Learn it in each key and then do the modulation and see if you can play it in all the keys without stopping.

And yes some of the keys you have to skip around octaves to play it.

Repeat it in each key. Try to play it 3 to 5 times without messing up.

Turnaround: Triton Substitutions (G. Perin) -V

If you haven't, please check out some of my previous videos about the turnaround cause this is going to be an advance lesson:

Triton Substitutions:

| BbMaj7 | Db7(triton of G7)| Cm7 - B7 (triton of F7)|
I bIII7 IIm7 bII7

| BbMaj7 | Gm7 (G7) | F#7 (triton of Cm7) - B7|
I VIm7(VI7) bVI7 V7

| BbMaj7 | Gm7 | Cm7 | F#m7 (IIm7 of B7) - B7 (triton sub for F7)|:
I VIm IIm7 bVIm7 bII7

I'll Remember April

Here are 2 files. One I've completed and one is for you to complete.

Write in the chords, then put notes in on the 8th note rests to make a solo (my version has it done for you to check out). Make it sound as good as you can.

If you have questions, put them below.

The files are here:

I have Sibelius files, midi files, xml files and pdfs and an audio file of my final version.

Walkthrough of Diminished Voicings on Vibes, Part 3: Application

Hey everyone!

I’ve got some exciting lessons for the next few months, starting with this series on diminished voicings. These three lessons will really go in depth with how you can creatively voice diminished chords, and how you can use the same shapes on non-diminished chords. Do you know the diminished major substitution? The dominant diminished substitution? The four main alterations of a diminished chord? How to use diminished shapes to play “out?” These lessons will go through all of this with a practical mindset, giving you tangible things to work on.
