Marie's Newsletter - July 2013

|
While Tony is out ‘spreading the good vibes’ down to Patagonia, some of us are much looking forward to the upcoming summer workshops, first July in Limerick – Ireland with our friend John Daly as host, then Delaware US early August.

Lessons this month are a bit out of our usual TOTMs, but still coming frequently… And to end this newsletter, we finally could watch some videos of our winter workshop of last February in Wuppertal – Germany, thanks to our host Matthias Goebel and his team.

Enjoy !

Old Bars new tricks

Hi All
Recently I discovered what was advertised as a mid sixties Musser Century Vibraphone available in Carson City Nevada
(about 300 long miles from my home in the Bay Area) I had to make a hard decision (if I was going to make that long drive just to check out this instrument.) What I remember of these old instruments is that the bars are beautifully rich, loud, smooth and somehow different then newer Musser bars. My instrument has been a mid 70's A440 Provibe that I have always loved the sound of and that has been my sound on the vibraphone for 20 years.

Happy Birthday Tony!!

Happy Birthday Tony!!

Did I miss a post to congratulate Tony or am I really the first...?

Anyway, Happy birthday Tony!!! Sorry I haven't been around here but I have been busy and am preparing for our second child that is coming in about 6 weeks...

Hope you guys all have a great time this summer with all the workshops and I hope to catch up soon with all of you!

Keep on vibin'!!!

Working on a transcription of Cal Tjader's Tropicville

Cal Tjader is one of the vibraphone masters. His work can inspire others. I'm enjoying my little jump into his playing.

I'm working on a transcription of Cal Tjader's Tropicville from the album Latin Kick. If someone is familiar with this track could you take a look at my transcription. I think it's getting pretty close, but another set of eyes would be awesome. Cheers!
