My First Jazz Gig
So...I don't usually write blog entries, but I figured I'd share some insight from my first-ever jazz gig in the community last week. I know some of you are old pros at gigging, but for those who aren't, here is one example of what it might be like. Of course every gig is different, so remember this is just one experience. Hopefully there are more to come!
hey everyone at this wonderfull place us vibist love to come too everyday ..
i had a brainstorm today ... Wat if we all swapped our original tunes here ... hmmmm
kinda like gettin in each others heads across the world ..
ill start the cycle off with a tune of mine. This one is called Sikyi moe. its a bossa/swing tune based on the form of green dolphin street.
if anyone has a way of recording there version of the tune id love to hear . and also and foremost would be 100 percent into any comments of the tune ..

Israel played a nice gig for a wedding in this beautiful parc in Galice - Spain. I love the weather, the trees and stream behind! What a great place and occasion to play!! :o)
French vibist Franck Tortiller is to launch in November a tribute album to Janis Joplin. Here is a excerpt... with Monsieur Jacques Mahieux on vocals! Enjoy!
I recently saw a local production of the musical, "Kiss Me Kate", which included the beautiful tune, "So In Love" by Cole Porter. I decided to work on this for my Solo TOTM. It's in The Real Book Volume III 2nd Edition.
Attached is a melody-only version, with metronome. I tried playing it with the pedal down most of the time, with mallet dampening for legato. The version in the Audio Player is a version with accompaniment.
Check out David's beautiful duet version (see Check This Out, above).
I still need to work on knowing the melody cold (too many mistakes and hesitations).

SOC = Stream of Conciousness
I like thinking on the fly and talking about stuff. Hope it's helpful.
