Do these mallets contain catnip?
|
Hey guys, I'm going to talk more about this in the coming days. But the new official instrument of Vibes Workshop is the Omega vibes from Malletech. I'm truly in love with this instrument. I've been meeting and talking with Leigh Stevens for the past 2 years. We met yesterday and this time it's now official!
So the University of the Arts (where Tony teaches in Illadelph) is illin' hard this year and we are going to start a monthly to bi monthly study. So we will blog on the blogoshphere of the interwebs via vibesworkshop.com about a certain composer or style, recommend tunes/info/recordings to each other, each learn some tunes from that composer or in that style, and eventually meet up and have a vibe hang that is centered around the topic du jour of the month.
The first up on the list is Duke Ellington/ Billy Strayhorn.
Dampening etude #3
Delaware Students, Check in here and I'll make sure you can get to Harvey's percussion Videos.
Simply leave a comment with the words 'I'm Checked In' with your first name and last initial.
Here's a new etude for Summertime. It's similar to the first one, but there's a few more chords and some anticipations of certain melody notes and chords that are a little different than the last one.
It keeps popping up. Either the student doesn't know the melody or sort of knows it. Or, he can only play the melody with his 4 mallet arrangement.
I think you guys should make yourselves a promise. When you learn a new tune, you will learn the MELODY first and play it and work on it, unaccompanied. No chords. Use your inner to hear the chords while you play the melody.
Next learn the chords.
Then you can put them together, but NEVER forget the melody or lose the ability to play it unaccompanied.
Deal?????? This will go a long way!
