Easy commute into town yesterday morning for an early class at 9. Warming up on the classic composition "Nardis".

Clip of Chega De Saudade (by Antonio Carlos Jobim) from a local gig here in Haverhill, MA.
Here's a simple idea for working with the Lydian Mode.

I had previously posted on this topic via a clip that demonstrated the concept on piano. I'm using the same Pentatonic scales in this clip from Saturday night's gig with Mark.
To view and download the Pentatonics being used for the improvisation, click on the link included in the clip's description. More clips from this night are up on my YT channel listed under Duo with Mark Carlsen. Other songs include: How Deep is the Ocean, Jitterbug Waltz, Topsy, Like Someone in Love, Triste, Ain't Misbehavin', Peace, There Will Never Be Another You, Chega De Saudade, How Insensitive.
Only quarter notes, but make something out of this. Make it sound like something.
Add space between the quarter notes. Great exercise for working with the pedal. Don't make them legato.
And of course add the chord changes, study the upper partials.
Similar to the first, but with modified chord voicings, enjoy!
Erik Locken is a vibe player who hangs out on the site. He's a pretty good player and also plays flute and sax and spent his life as a mathematician. Talk about good time management!
AND!!!! He's a great photographer! He does amazing nature shots. He's on facebook, friend him if you want to see all that.
This pict I thought was kind of cool, mainly because it's a filter. With photography a lot of times filters I think look dumb, but this one looks cool!
