Hi all. This is my first post.
My friend Paul and I just came across and bought some nice vintage pieces. Pauly got a 40's? Deegan marimba and I got some '39? Leedy vibes. A friend of ours found someone with these vintage pieces, who wanted to get rid of them. They were very reasonable. I think we both felt like we were stealing them. I haven't seen Paul's marimba yet, but my vibes are beautiful. I spent about 10 hours going over them, polishing chrome, etc... here is a picure of a set that is almost identical to mine.

The motor is original and works too. The belts are dry rotted though.

So here are a couple questions:

If I'm reffering to them properly, most of my post isolators are dry rotted and or missing. Do I need one on every post? Where do I find these, or can I find a rubber tube of the right size that works?

The keys are strung up with a standard string or rope with no spring. If I restring them and add a spring, is there anything to keep in mind? I was going to buy a spring at the local hardware store and use some military parachute cord.

I know Paul has similar issues with his marimba. And I said I would pursue some parts.

Any advise is appreciated.
Dave

Hi Pottsvillain,

Those vibes look beautiful.

There are belts on ebay right now. They say they are for Deagan and Leedy. Make sure they are the right size for yours:

I just bought an old set of Leedy vibes. One of the dampers has no felt at all. I appreciate any advice for a replacement.

This is my first set of vibes and I have much to learn. If my questions/terminology seem silly, please forgive my ignorance and thank you in advance for your patience.
