Discussion Time: You Have to Show Your Brain What You Want It To work On

I think of things like you guys do. I think of them all day long and I'm sure you guys do as well. I am preparing for the Team Omega workshop and I'm writing down all these notes and ideas.

So this is something I thoroughly believe and I'm thinking of having guys keep a journal during the workshop and write there thoughts and my thoughts in them as well as any one's thoughts and then think about them BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY act on them.

So you guys are my test subjects.
What does this mean?
How do you do it?
What is the outcome?

Playing Rudiments on Vibes: Exercises to Keep Your 4-Mallet Chops Up

Hello everyone!

I wanted to make a more technique-oriented lesson to give a look inside how I think everyone should practice four mallets. We’ll look at permutations, interval work, and one-handed rudiments in this lesson. By doing these exercises, you’re essentially training your hands to be ready for any combination of notes you’ll ever have to play, in whichever mallets make the most sense to play with. Let me know what you guys think!

Making the Case For Gates

A few months ago, I bought Lionel Hampton's autobiography. As I am slowly, but surely, making my way through it, I have learned a great deal from the master. I want to share some of that with you all.

I look back on my history with this instrument and I realized that I always threw Hamp to the wayside. I loved Gay Burton and Milt Jackson, but never gave him much consideration. I have now realized how grave a mistake that was.

Solo Vibes Arranging Lesson: Rubato Chord Melodies on "Easy to Love" Part 1: The Arrangement

Hey everyone,

I'm starting a new series on solo vibes arranging, where in the first part, I'll give an arrangement in the form of sheet music, and in the second part, I'll walk through it, note by note, explaining why and how I'm picking voicings, textures, etc. I hope this gives everyone ideas on arranging tunes on their own, as well as giving a tangible arrangement to play on gigs or for practice.

So, in this first part, I'll just be posting the sheet music. The second part will have an explanation attached.
