Great photo of a young Gary Burton. I love looking at photos like this and thinking where in history is this, since now his history is a timeline that's set. Get it?
Matthieu Daudos is a French vibraphone player and a friend. We play together both marimba and vibraphone in the New Jazz Band Project which is a septet of percussion instruments based on Bordeaux area.
From a session I did last year. Fun tune to play.
The first test is on the frame V3 with single aluminum resonator tubes in rubber suspension as shown in my Youtube channel.
The second test is using a similar but much lighter frame locating singel PVC-tubes in new sheet metall suspension.
Unfortunately, my phone's microphone has been damaged since a fall, making it a chirping sound.
I really like his playing. I posted another video of his here. Listen to how he backs up a singer. I think he does a great job!
I like this version of ask me now! It's very melodic and everything joins together really well!
"Invitation" - composed by the great Polish film composer Bronislaw Kaper who also wrote "On Green Dolphin Street". Two of my favorite standards. Invitation is a unique and interesting song in terms of both melody and harmony. Always a great vehicle to improvise and experiment on.
