Good VIbes Radio Update April 2021

Time

Hi Everyone,
April is Jazz Appreciation Month. It's great to have a whole month, not just a day, but I know you and I appreciate jazz all year. In this month's show I share many of the ways listeners can show they care. If you know others I haven't mentioned, let me know. But first you have to listen to the show, right?

I'll Remember April - Carolyn's mini concert

Since I wasn't part of the livestream for the "I'll Remember April" pop-up class, I recorded my own mini concert. I primarily worked on two styles of this tune over these weeks, a ballad and a Latin-inspired version.

In this video I play both styles back to back (Latin starts around 3:48). There's lots more I'd like to work on (such as improving my bebop vocabulary for soloing), but overall I'm happy with the progress I made on this tune during this pop-up class series.

Great Exercise On Dominant (Mixolydian) Chords -V

I know I've posted this before. But one more time.

All great horn plays know this one.

I write it here over an F9 chord and at the end I head into Bb. Learn it in each key and then do the modulation and see if you can play it in all the keys without stopping.

And yes some of the keys you have to skip around octaves to play it.

Repeat it in each key. Try to play it 3 to 5 times without messing up.

V6 - frame including twistable flaps

I think this is my last frame design. It now fulfills all my wishes and ideas. Besides the new, additional folding method, I am very happy that I managed to realize the twistable flaps in the frames without any restrictions on the folding versions.
It was a long development process until the twisting flaps also achieved good stability.

A corresponding flap version as a conversion kit for Musser M55 is in progress and close to completion.

Whisper Not

Here a little video made with a friend who is resuming contrabass playing after a 30 years break...
This is an important step for me because during my whole jazz life i always played with drummers. It's quite different to play without and i had to work somewhat hard to get tunes down in a reasonable way... One more time, thanks to WWWvibesworkshop.com for the all sorts of help during all thoses years...
Critics welcomed, enjoy if possible...

If you really love the vibes........

I am on the events committee for the Vibraphone Project Inc.. It was set up to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the vibraphone which is now.

The organization needs vibe players to join committees and help it be successful. I think this organization is going to do a lot of great things for the vibraphone.

So please consider helping. Email vibraphoneprojectinc@gmail.com and talk to Brian Graiser and see where you would like to fit it and help us celebrate the vibraphone.
