Black Orpheus - Ed Saindon

I always have this thing. When I see vibe players play something that I think is really great, I want to try it myself. Some of the pieces up here that I've played were inspired that way. I don't do this as a competitive thing. At least not totally, mostly I do it to learn, to compare. What did I do and what did they do. What can I learn from them and do better. I guess that's how you study right? Your teacher plays something and you try to do your version and sound as good if not better.

Tranya by Mike Pinto

So I'm hanging online with Patty via google talk and we were talking about Mike Pinto, so i figured I'd post the vid here. I think he sounds great, and his approach is a little different. He uses those Milt mallets but holds 3 I think most of the time. [I think.] He'll probably see this and maybe he can comment on it. Just goes to show you when it comes to grips. I like his lines so who cares about the rest.

Beautiful Love - Steve Nelson Solo -V

This is the first chorus of Steve Nelson playing a solo over Beautiful Love. I also posted part of it as a pdf, but I just started transcribing today so it's only a part and I think there are some parts wrong. but I'm working on it.
This solo is really great and he outlines the chords beautifully. I'll try to finish this first chorus soon and update the pdf.

Recording Video (Vince Guaraldi Update!)

I've been tied up with teaching, gigs and recording the next part of the Vince Guaraldi lesson! I need to get a little time and see what comments are going up. I'm glad Piper is around.

Anyway, I think I have a decent performance of the tune, now I need to talk about it and then that part will go up. I'm thinking probably Friday or so, I should be finished.

Hope someone is practicing the piece. I did more of my version which is similar to the etude and will give you an idea. I'm hoping one of you guys will record that actual etude and post it!!!

Vibeman27 is the Man

yo everybody,

Bruce is the male version of Marie EXCEPT for the fact that bruce plays vibes for real. Check him out on youtube, vibeman27. He plays good!! And Bruce is American not French.

He's active online, he's positive and in my virtual opinion he seems like a great guy. i'm so happy he's hanging out on the site. many of us know him well and want him to keep us up to date.

i bring that up cause if you see 'cancer update' and you start thinking.... huh????

so even if it seems a little off topic here, many of us on the site want to hear from him!

Dampening and Pedaling has MOVED

One major difference between my self and John Piper is organized vs. unorganized! Piper in his spare time is a fire fighter so he has to be totally organized. i'm just not even though I try to be.

Well we were talking about the dampening and pedaling section of the book and decided that it should be it's own book, since many of us might contribute to that book.

So I have moved it out of the 'Good Vibes' book and Made it it's own book. If you click on Books You'll see it there. The 'Good Vibes Book' is sort of becoming my book and Piper's Loft is John's Book.
