A New Six Mallet Player is in the Neighborhood
Cool tune!
Cool tune!
Apparently kids from all over the world are playing the Glock! :-)
Two things of note here; one being that Spain is being played incessantly all over the world and continues to show world appeal, and two, the girls are still coming. Watch out fellas, there are more playing vibes and marimba then you want to know about.
Of note; by the time I found where to post this, I almost forgot what the video was like so it will be like I am watching it for the first time again myself. Marie and Jen should be very happy about this video.
I truly hope all of the vibesworkshoppers enjoy. Here is Daniella and Ana from Moldova.

Ok, my computer could just manage to edit this video.
This is a backstage view from an opera I play in at the moment. Vibes and Drums.
So what I do here is the big(or one of) switch!
this is what I do in just a matter of seconds....
- count 20 bars rest(not all on video)
- play a fast line on vibes
- switch to drums in 2 bars
- put on snares on snare drum(sometimes I forget...haha)
- watch the conductor
- play some hip hop groove
- play some accents and fill heavily
- break on the last sixteenth of 2nd beat
Man Red did it before Hendrix, and Kiss!
This is really well done!
I gig a couple nights a week with a quartet loosely modeled after the great MJQ. However, the piano play of the group plays nothing like the great John Lewis. His playing is erratic, he is all over the harmony, melody, and the bass. During my solos he often plays "counter melodies" that disrupt my thinking and my lines. At times I'll pause in order to leave some space and he fills it. If I start of slow, with whole or half notes, he fills up the space with some kind of scalar run. It seems odd to me and I'm thinking that this isn't what the music is supposed to sound like.
Hey guys,
Vic Firth put up another clip of mine on their Podcast Page. This is a trio version of my original composition Pure Spirit. Matt Wilson is on drums and David Clark is on bass. Here's the link: http://www.vicfirth.com/podcasts/concert.php
There is also a nice clip of marimbist Pius Cheung also on the same podcast page.
The lead sheet of Pure Spirit can be downloaded from my website.
Best,
Ed
