Here is a song by Manos Hatzidakis in 10/8. I recorded it as a gift for my mother who recently had a birthday. So that I didn't spend forever making this present, I tried to keep the arrangements really simple.

I don't think we're talking of the same instrument. The one I'm talking about is the one that makes a very low sound. It's not a tambourin... Is it that kind of potery you beat?... Can't name it, but I think I once saw my friend Norbert playing it...

Help me!!

Oh yes!!! Please!!! That'd be cool!!

But, do you know the name of that instrument looking like a "potery", a bit like an amphora. I can't remember, it's just an old memory of it I saw on a dark stage. I never asked Norbert. I wish I had...

I think it's Udu... From the pics...

You have none of these?... I'm really surprised that sort of "tambourine" you play could make such a deep sound, so close from this instrument...

Thank you Dana! You saved me! :o)

Ahh Dana, this is very soothing. I really like this piece of work; you played all the parts I presume. Wonderful.

Yes I multi-tracked the parts. Thanks for listening Bruce!

I actually was singing the melody over this but wouldn't dare post that (yes, I'm chicken, no, I will not post). My voice is funny because I am a bass. My best range is at the low end of the marimba, below the range of my four octave vibes!

nice song, nice played! isn´t it great that you can make real music with that instruments just being a percussionist? this was something i always missed when i just played drums. with playing vibes and marimba you can do nearly everything in any style and it sounds like music...

I just found this today. Very melodic tune, i dig it very much. That's the first time I like a 10/8 greek tune, generaly I always prefered (without knowing why) 9/4 slower ones.
Great interpretation, make me sing and dance and I'm going to send to a friend of mine who is a specialist of those rhythms. :o))

Thanks for listening and commenting Babu. This is a well known Greek tune written by composer Hatzidakis. I know what you mean about the slow 9/4's ;)

As soon I'll get more confident with vibe playing, I'll try some greek tunes. I like this music and the poesy of rebetiko touch me. Your post showed me the way, thanks !
