the endless discussion about mallet grips

Forum Topic: Length of Mallets, Distance from instrument, and physical attributes of players

It's interesting to note how the physical attributes of players influence how they approach the instrument.

I'm 5'7" when I get up in the morning and probably 5'6" by the time I get home from work to practice. I'm also overweight which puts a bulge in front of me with my belt line right at, or just above, the bars.

The tyrannosaurus rex and I also have something in common. My short arms.
My hands are also relatively small as well. So as you can imagine I'm not exactly a chick magnet. But I have spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express.

Forum Topic: Is Mallet Creep terminal?

On Friday I was expecting the delivery of my M44. But it did not happen. But to save the day Tony had shipped my mallets so I had a chance to check out grips. That's what I did much of Friday evening and Saturday.

I had already seen most of the videos on VW about grips and tried all that were mentioned.
What I discovered is that the Burton Grip is the easiest/most comfortable for me.

But I've observed one problem I'm having.

Forum Topic: advice on dealing with long-term injuries

Hi All-

I'm typing one-handed to ask for everyone's advice on and experiences with tendonitis, repetitive stress, carpal tunnel, etc. I want to for my own situation, but also because I think any site that offers so many compelling and difficult things to practice should probably also offer some info on how to keep one's wrists from falling off!
