What's up vibesworkshop? As many of you know, I am up in Philly studying with the man himself, Tony Miceli. Tony and I spend a good deal of our lesson time in conversation about the instrument, music, and life. He asked me to start a blog and discuss things that I am working on and some concepts I use while arranging and playing. So this is entry numero uno. And I wanted to talk about arranging.

Does anyone have any suggestions of albums for guitar/vibes duos? I've been listening to Ralph Towner/Gary Burton and I'm looking for some other groups to listen to.

another danny boy version played on vibes and m-kat simultan. unfortunatley still with wrong notes but it was my best try. i think one could really make up nice solo things with this setup but it takes a lot of practice...

Hey VW peeps,

Got some nice footage from a recent gig, with some of my very favorite players. And there's more featuring vocalist Vaneese Thomas from Aretha Franklin's band, who sang with us. If folks are interested, I will post that when it is available.

Trying to figure out how to keep this going. Anyone with some ideas on how to bring the vibes to the people, please chime in! LOL All you cats in Europe..I'd love to take this band over there!

Well...when Tony mentioned the idea of a mini-concert, I picked a date on my calendar and decided I would record my concert that night no matter what! I chose this night because I had a jazz ensemble concert before this, so my vibes were already in a recital hall to add to the concert feel. Great room to record in!

I treated this as a real concert so I only did one take. I played "Sonnymoon For Two", "Blue Bossa", and the piece I've been tackling all month, "Afro Blue". Enjoy! :)

I recently discovered Little Sunflower by Freddie Hubbard.
What a cool, simple tune. Just a few chords. Dm7, Ebmaj7, Dmaj7.
I put into BIAB tonight, and recorded it in one take.

Vibes are cooooool. As if you didn't already know. :-)
