Playing in a quintet with a piano player. I know it's kind of tough to stay out of each others way when comping, any tips? Thanks for all the help!
Hello everyone, here's a videoclip from a clinic on improvisation that I presented at Berklee (last summer) for the Summer Program faculty. The topics covered Tension Resolution, Four Note Groupings and Major 7th #5 Superimposition. The clip features David Clark on bass and myself on piano playing written out solos (that can be viewed/downloaded from here: http://allthingsvibraphone.blogspot.com/2011/07/improv-concepts-by-ed-s…) based on each of those specific improv concepts.
hey,
in my series frank zappa M-Kat playalong i present today:
zomby woof.
i love that tune and it´s a really cool rock composition of frank, showing that avantgard rhythms like quintuplets can fit into a rock setting. i cutted out the biggest part of frank´s guitar solo and hope he will not hate me for that weherever he is now. i transcribed the marimba part sometime ago and attached it as pdf.
unfortunatley the auto focus of my cam went a little bit crazy...sorry for that.
hope you like it.

My student Sangwon is doing a paper comparing Milt to Gary and he's starting off with the history of the vibraphone.
I know there's stuff up here about the history. Anyone know where some is? Anyone know of any other links?
@Sangwon - start with this link: http://www.vibesworkshop.com/search/node/history%20of%20the%20vibraphone
Just to let you guys know.
We're setting up the workshop for winter. I think it will be in Dusseldorf in a music school. Here's what I know.
We'll have a few instruments.
We'll have practice rooms.
We'll have an evening percussion ensemble.
It should be the end of February.
I'll know more this week. But it's looking good! We needed a place where we could practice, etc.
This just sort of speaks for itself.
Happy Holidays to all.
Peace
randy
