Cop This Groove! Go ahead cop it. I dare you!
Last night I played a jazz jam session at La Rose Club in Germantown, with my friend and drummer Rob Henderson. He has created a recurring seesion at La Rose that's been going on for several months now, blending the new and upcoming players, with us oldheads! I had the pleasure of playing with, and listening to some of the finest playing I've ever heard from several young pups (as my dad would call them), several under the age of 20, all of whom I'm old enough to be their father, maybe even grandfather!
Guys,
Vibist Les Blachut sent me this link on an amazing Gino Vanelli live tune. He thought I could recognize the vibist! Haha!! I had no idea!! :o)
I made a little search and found that on the corresponding album the percussionist's name was John J Mandel. But as I couldn't find any picture of him, I can't be sure if it's him there.
But I'm sure some of you will help me and asnwer the question for Les.
Thanks!!
- M
PS: BTW, cooking vibes, huh? (starts around 5'35)
Inspired by the last piece, I got this vision of an epic chase so I tried to write out a "story"
hope you like it,
Joe
Anybody have any specific info about this video of Red Norvo throwing his bars out onto the stage on this Benny Goodman show? BTW, that's Hank Jones on piano looking suprised. When I first saw this I was horrified, but I've come to understand that it was a gag. Love to hear more info about it. Very strange.
Here's Estate, again. This time I am playing with my Dad, on accordion, plus the full Band-in-a-Box. I've also attached another version with my Dad on piano, and BIAB drums.
Barry K - Vibes
Paul K - Accordion, and Piano
Band-in-a-Box - Bass, Drums, Piano, Guitar
Enjoy,
Barry
I was looking around to see if anyone has posted a transcription of Milt Jackson's tune Bag's Groove and I have yet to find one. I'll keep the search going, but I figured I would post my version too. I hope some of you get a chance to check this out. Oh, and by the way...this solo comes from the album "The Birth of the MJQ". I'm pretty sure I found it on iTunes.
Hello, I have just moved to the city of Mannheim in Baden-Wurtemberg, Deutschland and I am going to study at the Hochschule für Musik here. I came from Argentina, and I couldn´t bring my Vibes with me, so I wonder, if anyone is selling a Vibes here or near, or know someone that is willing to sell a Vibes.
Any help is welcome!

I'm a Subscriber but I Keep Getting Access Denied. Why?
You should be able to post this as an audio post. If you're getting 'Access Denied', then the question is what browser and what operating system are you using. Maybe your cookies are turned off? It's definitely something wrong on your end. If you're not using Firefox, then download a copy of Firefox and install it. Don't set any security stuff too tight to start. Leave everything at a default.
Next try getting on the site from different computers, i.e. a friends, your laptop, etc.
This is my arrangement of The Hours by Philip Glass for 2 marimbas.
This is a live recording from my friends Scott's Graduation Recital at the University of Lethbridge. I'm the guy in the black.

Hope you like, this piece is really great. The challenge was trying to sound like one person blending and lining up all the polyrhythms.
