This is one of Joe Henderson's most popular tunes. During the first 8 bars try keeping the pedal down to sustain the long A- and C- chords. Use mallet dampening to keep the busy melody part as clean and distinct as possible.

Great bunch of students at the clinic. The clinic took place at the Accademia Del Suono in Milan. The school is located in a neighborhood of Milan with a very nice facility that includes a state of the art recording studio. The school's director is Timur Semprini who founded the school. I was very impressed by Timur's attention to detail and hospitality. The school has a top notch faculty that includes Andrea Dulbecco for vibraphone and Tony Arco for drums. The students had excellent questions. We all got a chance to hang a bit after the clinic.

Here's a simple melody over a chorus of rhythm changes. Take it at a slow tempo. Rhythm changes can be challenging to play over; this etude is meant to strike up a good balance between playing melodically, and catching some of the fast moving changes. Good luck!

Aloha, This February I had the opportunity to play in Honolulu, HI. While i was there i was exposed to the great vibist Arthur Lyman. We also were very fortunate to meet and talk to his drummer Harold Chang, whom was his drummer for 30 years. " Yellowbird" is one of the songs that Arthur would play solo and with his Quartet ... very fun tune to play and the Second Chord is distinctively Hawaiian..

While we were there I worked with an amazing middle school percussion ensemble from " Nui Valley Middle School" directed by Zachary Morita .. this kids blew me away ...
