Tony recently pointed out a great article about the vibraphone on NPR. That’s something we are all concerned about: to get more people to know about this too uncommon instrument.
For this new post, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you London based vibraphonist Roger Beaujolais! Here is a video he recorded for the internet music channel "MusFlashTV". What I like in this sample, is the approach of the instrument: at a time basic, complete and concrete.

Frits is one of the cats in Holland. A great player. He's also partners with Nico Vanderplas and they're now making the best vibraphones in the world. That is according to Joe Locke and John Piper. And Frits plays his 'you know what's' off. Check out this video.
If the vibes are half as good as Frits plays, look out.

Here is a pretty extensive discography of Joe Locke recordings. Some are hard to get a hand on, but this will give everyone here a pretty good basis of getting stuff by Joe Locke.
I'll try to post amazon links to the records I can find there for everyone to check out.
Chris is a monster sax player. Played with Maynard Ferfuson and Jill Scott just to name 2 groups. He's a Philly guy and is probably the best young tenor around here.

Here are 2 lessons for dominant chords.
Any jazz musician has been tripped up by the bridge of Rhythm Changes, the 4 dominant chords. It's easy to fake your way through the bridge and difficult to weave your way through the bridge.
Make sure you study dominant chords and scales and ways of getting through them!

Work hard on the modes. They are the foundation of the line!!
