Vibraphone

Hey Everyone,

I have a gig with a Big Band in May and I have a meeting next week to discuss the repertoire. I was wondering if some of you guys might have some ideas for existing arrangements for Big Band with vibes. Ofcourse I'm thinking of all the Terry Gibbs Dream Band stuff and also Lionel Hampton. I also have a great record of Milt Jackson with the Clayton-Hamilton orchestra(Explosive!)

I was just wondering if any of you would have some more ideas, so I can check some stuff.

Most of us voice from the bottom up, right? C maj 7, we hit the C and build up from there.

Try voicing from the top down. See the B or the D and then fill in the rest of the chord. It's not easy to switch, but it will REALLY help your playing..

I happened upon this You Tube clip commemorating Victor Feldman's posthumous induction into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. A fitting tribute to a musical genius and icon who was removed from us too young.

Mainieri's playing gave me the goose bumps and made me want to cry out in joy!

Elias, Erskine and Gomez sound great here too. Why wasn't I listening to this in 1983 instead of the Fat Boyz and Run-DMC? (LOL)!

I have not been playing much lately (which is not really making me happy)...but anyway, I grabbed a few minutes and was thinking about the Stride Blues stuff that Tony & Ed had done. So I propped up my iPhone, and made a little video. The thing works great for these kind of practice videos! Thank you guys, for the inspiration...

Raphael is going to be posting etudes on the site, one a month for subscribers. Here's the first one! He's putting it in Sibelius and as soon as it's done I'll get it on the site.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to see Joe Locke Play at Dizzy's next Thursday (January, 28th?) and I thought I'd put it out there and see if a bunch of us want to go and do a vibe hang at Dizzy's.
