The Bluesette Hang

I'm totally digging the TOTM. I feel like we're all studying together. That's the difference. You can find anything on youtube, but this is turning out to be a sort of school isn't it? Everybody working and learning together. Talking about stuff. It's kind of like a collective unconcious or some sort of Yungean thing. There's a bunch of us going around thinking about Bluesette during the day and digesting it all. Now that's cool and fun. Hey?

Marco Bianchi - Fun with vibes, friends and more!

I just had a great chat with Marco Bianchi, an Italian vibist who is member here, even if seldom online.

He told me he was preparing a new album with music in the Zappa style. He's also working on a TV show with 2 friends. They make little sketches... and sometime record humorisitic tunes. I made a little search and here is the tune I felt like sharing with you. Marco plays mallets, drum and keyboard.

Maybe this song will be a bit long for some of you. So I selected a few "spots":

- 0'00: great vibes part, funny images!
- 2'39: just watch, it's "fresh"! ;-)
- 5'23: I love it!

Here's Why I'm Posting This

When I stumbled upon this video today, I personally was drawn into it. I imagine it will have mixed reactions here on the site. I guess the guy is in a Mozart type of vibe. Ok, cool.

Listen to this in regards to comping and playing changes on the vibes. I say that because that's what happened to me while I was listening to it. There are sections where I think the voice leading is so smooth and the question and answer lines are really beautiful.

I found a study in listening to this, and besides the guy writes a nice melody even if it's too this or that.

So annoying!

So I've discovered, Gary Burton and Joe Locke are both performing on the same night, in London! What kind of bad planning was that?! And to make it infinitely worse, my college have their concert on that night!! Urgh, so irritating! Wish I could go and see both those guys!

Important info for Holland Workshop

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to get things organized for the workshop in Holland. There are a few things that are important right now for those of you that are (thinking of) coming to Holland in february.

First of all, don't book a hotel just yet. I'm gonna try to get a group discount, so I hope to save you all some bucks.

In order for me to keep things clear I'll need some information from everyone that is coming and also from everyone who is still thinking about coming.

So for all of you guys that are (probably) coming I'll need the following info:

Giulio Carmassi - Slick Stuff - One man band

After David's presentation of Michael Schiefel, here comes Giulio Carmasi, an amazing multi-instrumentiste, redoing by his own the Brecker Brother's Slick Stuff... with great talent, a little vibes, passion... and humor! :o)
Enjoy!
- M
PS: many more on his Youtube channel!
PPS: thanks to vibist Franck Tortiller for the link! ;-)

Belts & microphone placement experiences from the "old geezer" that I'd like to pass on (by Angelo)

I am very thankful that Tony Miceli invited me to join the VW and seeing what a great "tool" that it is for all members to have access to answers for their vibraphone category of instrument problems.
