Good Vibes Radio Update June '15

Time

Hi All,
June is shaping up with two new (to me) vibes players, Phil Kraus and Mitch Shiner. I'll open with Christian Tamburr who I met recently at the memorial ceremony for Bob Masteller. Christian flew in from Las Vegas to be there. I really enjoyed seeing, hearing and meeting him. The occasion was a fantastic celebration for the life of Masteller, owner of the Jazz Corner in Hilton Head. Non-stop musicians and music all afternoon from some of the very best.

New clip from Vic Firth - Alone Together - Solo Vibraphone

Hey guys, here's a clip that I recorded at Berklee this past year which was shot by the Vic Firth production team. Next clip to be released will be a solo marimba clip of Gershwin's classic "Summertime". In the clips, I'm using new mallets that I designed and have been using for awhile now. I was at the Vic Firth headquarters yesterday going over the details of the mallet. The mallets should be out in a month or two. Best, Ed

Q&A: Why Should Beginners and Intermediate Musicians Play Scales and Other Technical Exercises? (Good Question)

Because you're not in an environment where you are playing and keeping your hands in shape.

If you can blow over Cherokee at 300 BPM then you probably don't have to play technical exercises if you don't want to. You can just blow over tunes and work out your hands.

But for a lot of players new to the instrument you can't do that, so then it's important to play scales and other technical exercises and to work up speed.

Not much more to say about that. IMHO :)

Behn Gillece debut album, "Mindset," to be released May 15th.

Hi everyone,

My debut album as leader, "Mindset", is coming out May 15th. I'm really excited about the recording. The album consists of my originals that I've been playing on gigs for awhile now. If you're interested, check out the title track here. I also have other samples on my website, www.behngillecejazz.com You can also buy an advance copy from there if you'd like!

I'll be posting some info on my CD release gigs soon as well. Thanks!
