Giovanni talks about how to play over triton substitutions, which scale you can use, some tricks to reharmonize it etc...
Just found this on the web. Tony is looking so young....
A brief rendition of the classic "Over The Rainbow" that utilizes harmony from Keith Jarrett's beautiful version. The arrangement features a modulation from Eb to F to Db. For a copy of the arrangement (melody and harmony), here's the link: http://www.scribd.com/doc/113437494/Over-the-Rainbow-Reharm-Modulation
Check out this great tune written by Christos and performed at the 'Zeltsman Marimba Festival' (ZMF) 2013 in Arcata, CA.
The tune is written for 2 marimbas and one vibraphone and it's called Rodinia.
Enjoy
Here's a version of All The Things You Are with bassist Mark Carlsen and I. We play a lot of gigs together around Boston. I have to say that duo playing is probably one of my favorite formats. The listening and interaction is so clear and focused. Anyways, if anyone is in the Boston area, we are playing this Saturday, 1/11, at Li's in Haverhill. MA starting at 6:30.
This is a great tune that is not easy to find. I've attached a lead sheet that is pretty accurate. This is a great song to do alone or with a band. My favorite version is with Dexter Gordon on his Manhatten Symphony recording.
Happy New Year everyone! I became aware of the beautiful composition Alfonsina y el Mar just before the holidays. Here's an alternate version that I had recorded when practicing the song. (I was also testing out an external mic versus the internal mic with the iPhone. This version used the internal mic which wasn't as good.)
For vibists in Italy: I'll be in Italy (Florence, Venice, Verona, Milan) during May 8-16. If anyone would like to set up a lesson/clinic, please send me an email or FB message.
I just have discovered this guy.... Who knows where he's from ?
The best way to celebrate Christmas? A little holiday jam with dad!
We were supposed to play this in C but he had to lower it to B to sing, so I got to practice transposing quickly. A little rough, but it was fun and that's the point! :)
