"Quarantine" by Carolyn Stallard

This past June/July, I composed a piece inspired by the weeks I spent volunteering at a place called Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua, on the South Island of New Zealand off the Otago Peninsula. The piece tells of the island's history as a quarantine station (and the Maori injustices that accompany colonization) and my experience living there, volunteering, meeting community members, and hanging out with the Island Keeper and his two wonderful kids.

Carolyn's Mini Concert - Oct. 2018

My school had an informal recital this month, so I jumped at the opportunity to play. Feels like a VWS mini concert because I only had a few weeks to prep and could only play a couple tunes. I edited the applause out of this recording, but here you have my October mini concert.

For those unfamiliar with Tony's mini concert challenges, all you need to do is choose three tunes and record them (video or audio) without stopping. They don't need to be perfect (as you can tell from my recording), you just need to play and post. Always a humbling and motivating experience.

Vibraphone Technique: Dampening and Pedaling Etude #7

When working through this, it’s been difficult getting one solid run without missing at least 1 note. Threw in a ritardando at the end (I know it’s not written; to me it seemed appropriate to use there). Tried emulating this as a smooth and moving lullaby. Criticisms highly welcomed, and well appreciated
