Hey there how’s it going!

I want to share with you a really cool concert happening on June 25th, 2020 featuring one of the best folkloric ensembles from Colombia’s Pacific Coast- Canalón de Timbiquí. They are a group dedicated to interpreting and carrying on the legacy of the rich cultural music of Pacific Coast Colombia’s Afro population.

THURSDAY JUNE 25th
Time:
12:00 midday (Colombian time)
7:00 p.m. (Europe)
6:00 p.m. (London)
10:00 a.m. (USA - PST)
Tickets: $10 USD + fee
This is a special concert because we are joining forces with a top of the line studio in Cali to deliver the highest quality transmission, ensuring a crystal clear picture and astonishing audio quality. Moreover, all proceeds will go towards the families of the musicians of Canalón de Timbiquí, including many that live in Cali, Colombia and/or in the rural Pacific Coast villages that have little or no work, and very little if any income.

For me, to be a part of the production of this concert is a huge honor. Canalón de Timbiquí is an internationally known group, and are living legends in Colombia. The marimba music of Colombia is unlike marimba music in other countries;
The sound of the marimba is as sweet as the sound of a drop of water hitting a plantain leaf;
The versatility and complexity of the percussion will bring anyone with two left feet out of their seat, and will serve as a tasty treat for any music connoisseurs.
And finally, the voices with the guasás (shakers) will mend any distress of the heart and soul.

For vibes and marimba players, may I suggest that this music represents the African heritage of the balafon- an extremely influential instrument that over the years has evolved into the vibraphone. However, there is a refreshing relevance of the music of Colombia’s Pacific Coast; the independence, technique, rhythmical confidence and esoteric approach to the instrument brings us both a delight to listen to and enjoy, and an immense study in the other avenues of our instruments.
