A simple reason to compose alternate Melodies to standards...
I was just having a conversation about this topic today and thought it would be of interest to some of you starting to try and make money playing music.

Yo guys. Just a heads up while we get some things together here!
Here is the registration for Delaware: https://crayola.hcs.udel.edu/conf/registration/music/registration.html
We are about to send about 1000 flyers out to schools around the country and we only have 20 spots and we've been filling them up the last few years. So I wanted to give VW members a head start.
The Delaware workshop looks like it's going to have myself, Friedman, Samuels and I'm working on Behn Gillece and Mike Pinto. In addition there are some heavy MalletKat players coming (names are coming) .
I've been actually having a lot of fun, playing with metronome and really thinking hard about rhythm and how certain rhythms should sound. Sometimes I'll play a phrase of a tune or something I just played over and over, just listening to it against the metronome on 2 and 4. It's really fascinating to me how certain rhythms lay against the 2 and the 4.
I'm thinking about doing the same things against other things such as a clave (just got a clave app for my iphone) and bossa rhythms etc.
Anyone else thinking along these lines?
We're having a non internet vibe hang at my house this Saturday. If you're interested in coming let me know. We'll chip in for pizza and I have a bass player coming, so we'll jam and talk about vibes.
Tarik is one of our oldest members on the site. And MAN has he come a long way as a player. He's one of our success stories! He could even be our poster child!
So let's wich Tarik a very happy birthday!
An unofficial question here: I'll be in Romania for a vibes festival March 12th. That night will be me and David Friedman, I'm opening up for him, and we'll play a tune together! That's GREAT!
Then I'm around all day tuesday. And I thought: The festival will be amazing! So why not see if anyone wants to come to the festival and then on the day after my performance do a FREE workshop at the University nearby.
Anyone interested? Any European cats nearby want to come? Friedman might be around Tuesday, maybe I can get him to stop by as well. We'll see.
What an incredible workshop we had at the VanderPlas Baileo factory. From the tuning of the bars, to dampening and pedaling, to how to play the instrument to how to improvise, we covered a lot of ground this week. It was so much fun.
We had people from a lot of countries including France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Slovania, Bulgaria, Canada and more. That makes it so cool to me. The fact that all these guys are heading back to their countries with knowledge and inspiration and will further the cause of getting the good vibes out there is a thrill to me.
Tjaco is one of the guys who have been so supportive and helpful on the site. He just had a baby, so I got a feeling he will have less time for the site!!!!
Congratulations Tjaco!!!!!!

Vibe hang this Sunday! Should be a lot of fun. We'll be here in Sassenheim, NL at the vanderplas factory for a 2012 workshop. Come checkout and support all the players that came for this great event!
And of course we'll get David Friedman to play a couple tunes. Check it out if you can.
