I downloaded and have been practicing a solo that was written my vibes workshop members Patty and Tony created waaaaaay back in 2009.
With the utmost of respect to both Patty and Tony who have created this transcription I have made some additions to it. In playing it, I couldn't help but throw in some ideas that have come about from listening to a lot of Milt Jackson, my number one go to for finding some sweet lines. So, I've written them down and I hope that this might be of use to all.
I love the tune Recado Bossa Nova. My fav part is the Eb to A. What a cool sound.
I wrote a very detailed (for me) etude with sticking. So you can really see how I think of things. I try to take a very minimalist approach to the vibes (most of the time).
Notice how the harmony works and there is not a lot of chords. I think this works as a solo piece which means you don't need a lot of notes and chords for a solo piece.

I talk about using dampening to help make smooth transitions between chords.
Modal!
I think of modal playing as when you hang on one chord for a long time!
Check out all the edits in this video! Just the idea of thinking about playing accurately messes me up! But target notes are important. Classical mallet players use them all the time.
