Blues - Solo Vibes

Having fun today in the basement of the percussion department at Berklee between classes playing a blues in C. Some of the vibe students and I have been working on this style of left hand accompaniment. It's fun and a challenge trying to keep the left hand going while focusing on the right hand improv using syncopation. It's a pleasure to be able to teach and interact with all of the very talented players here. For me, it's energizing.

Quirky Ideas: 3 Chords Exercise and Study. This Will Help Many Of you.

Cmajor - Abmajor - F7

Cmajor - Abmajor - F7 =
C (Ionian)- C Aeolian - C Dorian

Pattern
*comping

The Mancini Challenge

Here's the Mancini Challenge.

I have to learn these tunes for an online concert Sunday March 19 at 1pm. We're doing Mancini tunes. He writes a lot of slow and beautiful tunes. Here is a PDF of the tunes we are playing. You should check them out and listen to the originals online.

I have a fellow young musician who thought a couple were very corny. I like corny and Mancini's tunes are so beautiful to me.

Comping: Comping In Seconds

"I'm A Fool To Want You" - Solo Vibraphone

"I'm A Fool To Want You" - working today on this classic song written in 1951 by Frank Sinatra, Jack Wolf and Joel Herron. Using my Vic Firth M39 mallets on a Yamaha vibe. I'm pleased with the sound and feel of the new mallets. Enjoying the nuance and subtleties at a soft dynamic level while still sounding full. (My apology for the squeaky pedal. I'll have to bring some oil next time. :) )
